8 Spooky Shows to Watch in October

Spooky Shows

Hello ghosts and ghoulies!

As you may know/be able to tell from the posts lately, I’m an absolute Halloween/spooky season fanatic. I loooove all things to do with this time of year, and Halloween is probably my favourite holiday. But I know there are some who don’t really like going to parties or going out on Halloween, and what better way than to stay in and have a Netflix binge night! If you’re more of a TV person than a film watcher, I’m sharing with you eight recommendations that will really give you spooky season vibes!

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

I’ve mentioned this show before, and I stand by it forever. It is perfect for Halloween because it’s got those spooky Halloween vibes, but it isn’t scary. Even if you don’t like horror or really frightening things, you’ll watch this show and love it. I love that this revival is so different from the original, but still has that retro feel. I highly recommend this one for Halloween or anytime, really.

Hemlock Grove

This show is so weird and wonderful, I truly love it. Honestly it’s hard to explain because there is so much going on, but it has it all- murder, werewolves, crazy science experiment weirdness-it’s amazing. The cast is also ridiculously good. To be fair, it is very graphic, so if you’re sensitive to blood and gore, this might not be for you. But if you can deal, this is truly a unique show that keeps you guessing until the end.

The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell

This show is so cool, and wonderfully peculiar. If you really don’t like the scary vibes this time of year-this is the one for you. Basically Christine is a really talented baker and artist, and demonstrates different treats and crafts. The interesting part is that the whole thing takes place in her “house” which is also inhabited by some spooky creatures. It’s like Bake-Off, with a spooky twist, but its endlessly fun to watch.

Salem

This show is all about female power, and it is so so good. It basically follows the story of the Salem witches, and it is dark. It has unbelievable twists and turns, and always keeps me on my toes. The cast is so good, lead by Janet Montgomery and Shane West. This is another fairly gory one, so if your stomach turns quite easily, don’t do this to yourself. But it doesn’t bother you so much, this show is filled with badass females, and it’s an interesting, modern take on the Salem Witch Trials.

Grimm

I love this show so much. I started watching it years ago, and I still re-watch it now. The concept is so cool-it’s a police procedural meets fantasy storybook. Basically Detective Nick Burkhardt is a cop who is descended from a long line of warriors called Grimms, who fight creatures know as Wesen. It’s cool because it’s all the stories come to life, werewolves, Goldilocks, etc etc. It’s a darker take, but it isn’t scary or gory. If you’re a fan of shows like Once Upon a Time, you’ll like this one!

The Alienist

This.show.was.so.good. There’s only one season, but God is it worth it. The show follows Dr. Lazlo Kreizler, a criminal psychologist, known at the time as an alienist. He teams up with illustrator John Moore and police department secretary Sara Howard to solve a string of grisly murders in 1896 New York. The show is full of spooky vibes and twists and turns. You’ll never see the ending coming, for sure. Again, this show is fairly graphic, especially the crime scenes, so just beware.

Hannibal

If you are a fan of the film Silence of the Lambs, you have to watch this show. The show follows criminal profiler Will Graham, who enlists the help of psychiatrist Hannibal Lecter to catch a particularly complicated serial killer. They form a partnership, and it seems like there is no killer they can’t catch. But Lecter harbours a dark secret, and his brilliant mind is more twisted than it seems. The cast is brilliant and the show itself is phenomenal.

American Horror Story

This is probably my favourite horror show of all time, but don’t spoil anything for me because I’m still on the seventh season. This show is so unique because the different seasons are each different from each other. Some elements/characters do cameo in further seasons, but for the most part, you could watch them in whichever order you please. My favourite seasons are Murder House and Coven, but Asylum is also very very good. If you haven’t seen this, and you’re a true horror fan, stop what you’re doing now and load it up. You won’t regret it!

I absolutely love spooky/scary shows, so I’d love to know what your favourites are. Have you seen any of these? Let me know in the comments below and leave me your best recommendations!

As always, thanks for reading & stay golden!

XOXO,
