Hello little monsters!
Halloween is fast approaching, and if you’re anything like me, you’ve seriously procrastinated on coming up with a good costume. Or maybe you’ve got more than one party to go to, and you don’t want to be an outfit repeater. Never fear, I’m here to help. There are so many options for last minute costumes, so I’ve compiled 12 that are easy, and sure to impress! If you’re on a budget, I’ve included links to cheaper options for each outfit.
Possibly the easiest of all, a black cat costume is so simple, yet always effective. All you have to do is pair some black leggings, top and shoes- throw on some cat ears and you’re perfect. Makeup can be minimal, just draw on some whiskers with black eyeliner, maybe colour the tip of your nose in. If you’re good with liquid eyeliner, you can even add a simple cat flick to finish off the look.
I love a costume with elements that are wearable in everyday life, and this one is just that. Keeping it simple, you can pair some jeans with a flannel button up shirt, add some cowboy boots and a straw hat- and voila! You’ve got yourself a scarecrow. If you want more intricate look, check out some scarecrow makeup to spice it up. The nice thing is that the jeans and shirt are pretty much autumn staples, so you’ll get some use from them even after Halloween is over!
Sandy from Grease
Grease is one of my favourite films of all time, and it just so happens that Sandy makes a great, but easy costume. Just get yourself some black leggings, a black off the shoulder top, leather jacket, some red heels and a red lippie, and you’re transformed. Make sure to curl and tease your hair and you’ve really got the look. Don’t worry if you’re not a blonde- the outfit is so iconic, people will know who you are!
If you want to truly get into the spooky season, dress up as fan favourite Wednesday Addams. Keep it simple with a black dress featuring a white peter pan collar. Pair this with white knee high tights or socks, and some black shoes, and the outfit is complete. Give yourself two pigtail braids, and make sure to wear a sour expression all night! It’s easy, instantly recognisable, and really fun to get into character.
Let’s be honest, who else is still waiting for their owl? Me, too. Live your dream and pair a white button up with a black skirt, and some sensible shoes. Keep on theme and add some white knee-highs, or even some fun official ones. If you want to add Harry’s iconic glasses-go for it! But don’t forget your house colours tie! I’d personally go for green/silver for Slytherin, but hey-to each their own.
Boo from Monsters Inc.
Go for a super simple, and more importantly comfortable costume, and dress up as Boo from Monsters Inc. All you need is a plain pink Tshirt, some purple leggings and white trainers, and you’re done. Remember to add the iconic high pigtails, and you’ll be the cutest one at the party! I love this option so much, and what’s better is all the components are things you could easily wear again.
A cult classic, Pulp Fiction gave way to the one and only icon, Mia Wallace. It’s an easy costume, and you probably already own a good deal of the components. All you need is black pants/leggings, a black bra, white shirt and black shoes-could be flats or heels, you decide. Slap on a red lip, and don’t forget to smear a little fake blood around your nose. If you’re any good with SFX makeup, you could add a syringe over your heart, to keep true to the film. Keep a fake cigarette between your fingers and boogie the night away!
I think everyone had a Where’s Wally (or Waldo, for Americans) book growing up, didn’t they? Emulate the character with jeans, a red stripey top, and the iconic striped beanie. Don’t forget your trainers and round specs and you’ve got yourself a truly recognizable outfit. If you want to splurge, go for some authentic red Chuck Taylors, but if not slap on a copycat pair in white. The best part is that this requires no makeup and you can do what you like with your hair! It’s a super simple option, but a really striking one!
80’s Aerobics Instructor
Though this costume is simple, it’s anything but basic. Bonus points: it’s really comfy as well. All you need is some trainers, white high socks, a bodysuit/leotard and some bright tights. The colours are up to you, but the brighter, the better. Go wild with some vibrant eyeshadow and big hair and you’ll be the life of the party!
Rosie the Riveter
Embrace the girl power and go as Rosie the Riveter. A cultural icon of the Second World War, Rosie represents the women who worked in factories and shipyards during the war. And the costume is dead easy. All you need is a pair of jeans, a denim or chambray shirt, and a red headscarf/bandana. Put a little red lipstick on and add a pin curl up front and you’re sorted! Here is a link to help you out with the hair & makeup!
Another super simple costume, you can use items you already may have. The key, I’ve found is basically to wear all black, add a witch hat-that’s it! If you fancy a dress & tights, great. Go more modern with leggings, a top and a lacy shawl-whatever you want! This is just an example outfit, but honestly this is one of the easiest costumes to pull off!
Now, I know this look seems like there are a lot of components, but it’s actually fairly simple, and you might already have some of them! All you need is a white button up, a black skirt, tights, shoes, and an umbrella. If you want to go the extra mile, there are plenty of accessory sets that can help you out with the hat, gloves and bow tie. Then you’ll be practically perfect in every way.
Easy as pumpkin pie, right?! What I love about a lot of these is that they incorporate items you might have already, or that you could wear in real life. Also, if you have more than one event to go to, and you want to wear different costumes, you could use a lot of this for more than one get up. I hope these have inspired you to put together your best Halloween costume yet! If you try any of them, send me a snap here, on Twitter, or Instagram!
As always, thanks for reading & stay golden!
