5 Ways to Relax on Short Time

Hello friends!

I hope you’re all having a good day and that the fall season has finally descended upon you. Here in Florida, it’s been hot, but we have had a few nice days! Fingers crossed that it continues. Even more exciting is all the fall & winter holidays coming up! They can be lots of fun but also can come with a lot of stress and not a lot of time to deal with it. I thought I’d share 5 ways to de-stress when you have an hour or less. Happy relaxing!

1. Read a bookpeople-2593394_1920.jpg

This is probably my favorite way to unwind. Reading can take you out of your own headspace and transport you into another world. Find what works best for you. I like books with a lot of drama and intrigue, but you might need a lighter, more fun, easy read. A physical book is always nice, but having a tablet is super convenient. Protip: You can download the Kindle app onto any device. This includes your phone, so you can always have a book with you. Either way, reading will allow you to forget about your current stress, and live another life for a short while. And at least for me, it feels more productive than binge-watching Netflix.

2. Meditate

This is a no-brainer, but one that I am not very good at. Sometimes it can be nice to just sit and try to release everything and think about nothing. Find a quiet, comfortable place and just relax. Let your mind wander but don’t focus too hard on any one thing. It helps me to pay attention to my breathing. Admittedly, it is very difficult for me to get into meditation; I have high anxiety and tend to overthink things. By paying attention to my breathing, I can get out of my own head and start to relax. Fair point: meditation does not work for everyone. Don’t try to force it, if it’s not for you, don’t stress about it.

3.Make and enjoy a cup of tea

I like this method because it keeps my hands busy, but it’s not something I have to think hard about doing. Also, tea is delicious. I drink probably 4-6 cups of tea per day. There’s something relaxing about going through the motions of making the tea, and then settling down to enjoy it. And try lots of different kinds! My favorite is Yorkshire Tea, but some good options are Earl Grey, Herbal Peppermint, even fruit teas can be nice occasionally. If you’re really not a tea person, try hot cocoa!

4.Listen to music

I am a big music person. The right tunes can completely change my mood. When I’m stressed or overwhelmed, the right music can really improve my mental state. For me, I like to listen to low-key, sometimes folksy music, but you might need something upbeat and super happy. Even listening to music in a foreign language can be nice because you can forget about the lyrics and just go with the feeling of the song.  Let the music take you. A few of my favorite chilled out artists are: Sigur Ros, The Avett Brothers, Daughter, Sleeping at Last, Bon Iver, and Tom Odell, among many others. Look up user “Caity Elle” on Spotify to follow my playlists!

5. Do something productive

Sometimes I get so worked up and stressed that I can’t just sit still and “chill out.” I need to do something productive. Oftentimes, it is helpful for me to organize something. Reorganize your closet, your makeup collection, your car, whatever you need to do that you’ve been putting off. Plan out things you need to do this week. Getting something done, while it may not be the top priority in your life, can give you a sense of accomplishment and de-stress your mind just a bit. Sometimes I’ll go out and pick up something I’ve needed to get, but isn’t that big of a deal. The important part is mentally ticking something off the list, no matter how small.

The holiday season is a really exciting time, but can also be very stressful. Don’t forget to take those moments for yourself, because self-care is so important. Find what works best for you! How do you like to de-stress? I’d love to hear your ideas! Let me know in the comments below.

As always, thanks for reading & stay golden!
