TooFaced Christmas in New York Chocolate Shop Review + Swatches

Hello friends!

My wonderful, sweet, amazing man knows that I love make-up to the very depths of my soul. So, for my birthday back in October, he took me to Sephora and let me pick out something I wanted (I know- how dreamy is he?).  After much debate and buyer’s anxiety, I settled on the TooFaced Christmas in New York Chocolate Shop Set. TooFaced is one of the first non-drugstore brand I tried, and it remains one of my favorites to this day. Without further ado, let’s talk about this set!

What’s in it?

The actual pop-out palette contains 21 cocoa-infused eyeshadows,  a mini Chocolate Soleil Bronzer, a blusher, and a Luminizer. You also get a deluxe sample size Melted Chocolate Liquid Long Wear Lipstick, a deluxe sample size of their Better Than Sex Mascara, and a deluxe sample size of their Shadow Insurance Eyeshadow Primer.

Thoughts & Feelings

really like it. At $58, it isn’t the most inexpensive item, but you get so much stuff. Most higher-end eyeshadow palettes run around $40-$60, so the fact that you get a mascara, liquid lip, eyeshadow primer, blush, bronzer and highlighter really makes this gift set special.  I like how the set comes all together, the packaging is just ridiculously cute. I mean, how adorable would this be under your Christmas tree? No wrapping needed. As if that weren’t enough, the whole thing smells so delicous, as it has the iconic TooFaced chocolate scent. Every time I use this I give an audible “mmm” because it smells so good.

Quality Control

The quality is great, as usual with TooFaced.I have many palettes by them and I am rarely disappointed. The only negative I have with this one is that the matte shades aren’t as easy to work with as the shimmers. They don’t have as much pigmentation, so you really have to layer them. Those.shimmer.shades.though. They are so pigmented, so buttery & smooth. They blend so easily and are so easy to work with. I die. The Chocolate Soleil bronzer is standard, always great, which is why it’s such a staple. The blush is nice, and a little goes a long way. I love the color, it adds such a nice flush to the cheeks. The real surprise is how gorgeous the highlight is. I’m usually not a big fan of TooFaced luminizers, but this one is really nice. It’s a champagne-peachy toned luminizer, which some gold reflects. It looks so beautiful on the high points of the face. Is it as pigmented and glow to Mars as say, Becca/Jaclyn Hill’s Champagne Pop? No, but it gives light to the face without being soo dramatic.

The Extras

One of the nicest things about this palette is the extras that come with it. I stand behind the Shadow Insurance 100%, and really feel like it does help shadows stay and slay all day. The Better Than Sex mascara goes without saying. It’s amazing and if you want big, long, fluffy lashes, this is your girl. Save the best for last, the Melted Chocolate Liquid Lip is to.die.for. It’s pigmented, smooth, creamy, hydrating, and long lasting. It doesn’t feel sticky and is really comfortable to wear. I love love love the shade-Chocolate Milkshake. It’s a warm brownie nude shade that is perfect for winter.

Swatches

I swatched every shade except Dessert’s On Me & Cookie Dough, quite frankly because I forgot and somehow missed them?! Typical, and I apologize for that and my horrible lack of skills at swatching. My personal favorite shades are Butterscotch, Sugar Bells & Mint Chip.
